Traveling to Buenos Aires

or Adella's Chilean Visit 2002, part 2

Margy and Adella in front of the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires   On the first weekend of her visit, we made a quick trip to Buenos Aires. The first night we did a bit of shopping. Adella's hat and gloves were our first purchase. September is still winter in the southern hemisphere!

The next morning, we took a tour of the city. Here we are in front of the Pink House, where the president works.

A major highlight of Adella's trip to Buenos Aires was meeting her possible relatives. Two years before, when we first went to Buenos Aires, Artie went through the phone book and called all of the numbers of the people who had the same last name as Adella's grandmother, since she knew that some of her family had settled in Argentina many years ago. At that time we met with one fellow whom we learned about from his cousin who still had the name. Salomon brought old family photos to show us when he came to our hotel to meet us. We immediately liked him and we could see strong family resemblance's in the photos. We promised to try to bring Adella there sometime in the future so she could could meet these people whose ancestors came from the same part of the world. You could see the joy in her face as we were making final arrangements by telephone for the reunion....
Excited Adella before the party

and the excitement grew throughout the evening event.

All of us at the party

At our party were Sarah, Selig, Adella, Margy, Artie, Bertha, Fanny, and Salomon.
At the table for our tea party   After having the waiter take our pictures, we enjoyed the high tea the hotel prepared, and spent the next 3 hours getting to know one another in the private meeting room. We looked through old family photos, a family tree and old letters as we tried to establish the common root. Even though we couldn't be sure, we now have new bonds and maybe cousins!
