Adella's Chilean Visit 2002After my father's death on July 28th, Artie's mother, Adella, needed to get away, so we invited her to visit us here in Chile for nearly 3 weeks. It was scary for her to travel so far alone, but she was happy to discover that she could do it. Many of you know that Adella was married to my father for over 10 years. There is a memorial link available from my home page. |

| Early in her visit, she was serenaded by our good friend and guitar teacher on his 15th century style lute. Cristián
was going to go for a lesson with his teacher after he gave me my lesson on my guitar. Adella and Cristián have since found that they had a lot in common in their love of poetry. They both write down meaningful lines from poems they read, although in different languages, of course. |

One day we went to Mónica's apartment for a birthday dinner for Jim, a Canadian friend of ours. Before we ate, we enjoyed a pisco sour, probably the most popular cocktail served in Chile. Since none of us are big drinkers, the single glass is enough for us to share. |

| Adella was delighted by the organ grinder who comes to the park across the street from our apartment. It brought back memories of the organ grinder she had seen some 80 years ago. Instead of a monkey, however, this organ grinder has tame birds. | ||

| Adella found ways to keep herself busy when we weren't out and about. | ||
![]() She read many of the poems of the famous Nobel Prize winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda. |
After I mentioned that I had never heard some of the family stories that people had shared at the funeral, she wrote out as many of Daddy's stories that she could remember for us. I will share them with my sisters. | |

| Not all of our time has been spent in Santiago. Next is our trip to Buenos Aires. | ||
