USA Summer in New Hampshire and Area

July through September 2009

Our summer-shift to the north, from Florida to New Hampshire, included a brief stop on July 9th at Dennis and Cari's house, in Pasadena MD. They prepared a great Bar-B-Que for us and for John, who drove over to enjoy the dinner and togetherness.

Now that's a fire! Dennis got the blaze under control, and we all enjoyed a tasty and entertaining meal together.

We planned to see John and his family in August, for their daughter Kristin's wedding in Colorado. This visit was extra fun.

Den provided us with lots of laughter with his typical humor and antics. A great visit on the run north!

We had planned to drive straight-through, from Maryland to New Hampshire. But the New York City traffic and beyond was so congested, that we decided to make an unplanned overnight stop in Connecticut to visit our friends Ali and Len.

Len arrived from work a bit later. We relaxed together on their back deck, amidst beautiful flowers and their gorgeous view of the surrounding trees and greenery.

The next morning they served breakfast on the deck, and we were ready for our last leg north.

Margy and Ali were good friends from High School days in Endicott NY, and re-united in Syracuse NY a few years later.

How nice that they and we have been able to be in touch over all these years. What a happy visit we had on the way to New Hampshire.

July 14, Bob and Carol passed through New Hampshire on their way back to Florida from Nova Scotia. Bob showed us a yard-game, called ladder ball, that he built out of PVC tubing. We played for a bit while enjoying time with them. Though they live not far from us in Florida, this was our first time to see them in nearly a year.

Carol demonstrated a perfect toss, wrapping the ball and string around the bar. Bob made a special bead score keeper.

Niece Alison, and her 1.5 year old daughter, Ronan, visited at Larry and Elaine's house August 1. We enjoyed lunch together and took lots of baby photos.

Whether playing with car keys, trying to fit miniature shoes from Holland on her feet, or eating, Ronan kept us entertained.

It's fun to be near family when we summer in New Hampshire. Easy trips to Artie's brother and nephew, or short trips to Cape Cod (as we did later in the summer) to see friends, provide joyous times from July through September.

Also, the cooler weather is great for taking morning walks through our beautiful condo community, where we enjoy scenes like these lush gardens and greenery.

Danny and Roberta invited us for a back-deck BBQ dinner. Above, Maddie and Max pose with for the "family shot."

Maddie showed us her bedroom decorations of Michael Jackson posters. She sported her hat with brother Max providing a "unique" pose.

Above Max cools off in the family pool, and Indy provides a doggie profile for the camera. Below, we took a family photo to celebrate Roberta's brother, Eddie, and his wife Anita, coming to town from Atlanta. Parents, Ed and Roberta and even Indy the dog (running with a football in his mouth) made it into this shot.

This hotel above in Kennebunkport Maine was the meeting place for an August 3rd reunion with one of Artie's elementary school friends, David, that he had not seen in nearly 50 years. The photo at right included another friend Steve (shown at far right, who we met in Australia during June), and prompted searching for the whereabouts of David, at left in the old photo, next to Artie.

Artie found David through the Internet, talked by phone, and arranged for this get-together to meet David and his wife Helen.

Shown below are Artie, Margy, Helen and David.

Helen gave us these delicious home-grown tomatoes, from their Manhattan terrace in NYC. Minutes later we drove down the street a couple of miles to view the George H. W. Bush (the 41st President) compound overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

August 7-9: Cape Cod

We were invited to the Cape Cod home of our friends, Sherry and Stewart. They planned a big party to celebrate their recent remodeling project, but their kids turned it into a birthday surprise for their parents.

We stayed at this nearby motel, and took the opportunity to meet with friends we had not seen in 15 years, Dennis and Pam, who were vacationing at the Cape at the same time.

Artie and Den began their careers the same day at the same company over 40 years ago. They later each changed companies and worked together again. Small world! It was great to catch up with them.

Our friendship with Stewart and Sherry goes back over 40 years. Margy and Sherry lived on the same dormitory floor at Syracuse University, next door to each other, and became dear friends.

We were proud to attend their special party and surprise birthday celebration.

We had a perfect day with sunshine and clear skies.

We all gathered in the back yard and deck, seeing family members and meeting new friends.

Plenty of Maine lobster for all!

Daughter, Ali, her friend Jim, and daughter Erica (ready to bite!)

Fun, food and photos! Sherry and Stewart never knowing the surprise was about to unfold....

The big surprise gift from their kids, Erica and Ali, was a photo book with comments and photos from friends and relatives. We had the honor of being their "longest friends," and had our remarks and pictures in the front of the book (above).

The guests had as much fun as Sherry and Stewart, looking at old pictures and stories.

Great party, great day, great friends!

The New Hampshire summer provides wonderful opportunities to enjoy family-time together with Larry and Elaine, Danny and Roberta and their kids. Elaine cooked us several impromptu meals (typically after weekend racquetball), and this fancy lunch complete with home-made apple pie!

Danny, Maddie and Max visited our condo community, and we walked neighborhood streets and golf course lake border.

It's such fun to see our niece and nephew growing up, including their current "Michael Jackson Phase."

At times, the family gatherings were for projects. For example, one weekend we all went to Danny and Roberta's house to help cut logs for winter firewood. Danny, left, sharpens the saw for the work to be done. Below, everybody gets into the job. Hard work, but fun!

Future loggers of America.

First clear the small stuff. Then attack the big jobs.

These are good sized logs!

With muscle power and a special logging tool, called a peavey (named after the inventor, Joseph Peavey), the guys were able to move the logs where needed. They were to be stacked and dried for next season's chopping into firewood.
After the hard work was done, we all enjoyed a pizza dinner and relaxed together.

Left to right: Max, Roberta, Larry, Danny, Maddie and Elaine.

At times, the "projects" were at our apartment. Here, Larry helps us modify a headboard for our bed.

At times we worked in each other's place. Above left, Artie and Margy helped move a dining room buffet into Larry and Elaine's sun room. At top right, Elaine and Larry helped move a shelf from Waltham MA to Nashua NH.

Margy rearranged our apartment living room to accommodate the new shelf unit. We enjoy our NH apartment.

Dennis and Cari visited September 11, with Den's brother Don and wife Monika. Although the luggage might imply otherwise, they only stayed over one night. We had fun figuring out how to inflate the air mattress, and taking photos.

The engineers figure it out. She's gonna blow!!!

Dueling cameras? No just all of us with the same hobby! Though brief, the visit was certainly fun.

Artie enjoyed his New Hampshire summer working on many of the Web page photos you are seeing here. Especially with this particularly busy year, with trips, visitors and projects, it became a continuous activity.

Aside from training and coaching Artie for the task, Margy always did the final editing and fine-tuning. These pages are a team effort. We enjoy sharing the finished product with our dear friends and relatives.

As fall approached, color began to show in several of our beautiful condo community's trees. Our apartment is on the first floor, front-right corner of the building shown at the right.

As the summer wound down, we watched the color change in this nearby tree. Bright red leaves, cooler and shorter days, all signaled our time to transition south again, back to Florida.

Our daily walks provided many opportunities to enjoy marvelous sunsets and beautiful skies.

Beautiful sunsets. Beautiful New Hampshire summer. Fun family events and activities, plus trips and travel. A great time.
