At nearly 95 years of age, Adella passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009, following a very short bout with pneumonia.
She lived a vibrant, adventurous and joyful life.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from Brooklyn College in 1936 with a Bachelors Degree, and taught for
over 25 years in New York City and Upstate NY, and was very active in the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) as
her children were growing up. She loved to travel (crossing the USA, touring Europe, and visiting Chile six times),
to read, stay physically fit, play the organ, compose songs and poetry, and more recently to enjoy choral singing
with her friends at her life-care center at Harrogate, in Lakewood, New Jersey. A life-long learner, Adella enjoyed
seeing and doing new things, quick to make a public speech or talk about almost anything.
She was predeceased by her first husband of 55 years, Artie's father, Maurice, "Pop," who died in 1989,
by her second husband of ten years, Margy's father, Vince, "Daddy," who died in 2002, by her dear friend
and sister-in-law Bessie, her daughter-in-law Marianne, her beloved grandson Randy, and her brother Izzy.
She is survived by her three sons, Larry, Ray and his wife Shelley, Artie and Margy. Through Daddy, she is survived
by five step-daughters, Anne Fay, Pat, Bibba, Kathy and Margy. Four grandchildren: Jill and husband Kevin, Ann
and her companion Dom, Steve and his wife Nadine, Danny and his wife Roberta. She was a great grandmother to Brian,
Madison and Max. She will be missed by her devoted caretaker, Elizabeth, her friend, Dr. Jay Vida, her "honorary"
son Alan and grandson Cristián, plus many friends and family from around the world. |

During the funeral held in Toms River, NJ, on January 26, 2009, her great grandson, Brian (almost 10 years old),
told the group of over 100 gathered friends and family: "I didn't know her for very long, but she was always
nice to me. Everyone close your eyes and think of all the great times you had with Grammadell. Put it in your
mind and you can keep it with you for the rest of your life." |
