Kristin and Jason's Wedding

August 30, 2009

This special event was held at "Planet Bluegrass" in Lyons, Colorado, near Boulder.

Many helped with wedding preparations, staying together at a local hotel. Kristin's Mom, Bobbi, "directed" the volunteers!

The night before the wedding, we squeezed in a dinner with another Kristin and her husband, Kevin, who live near Boulder. It was a brief but fun time to quickly catch up.
Even Kristin got into the pre-wedding day preparations, carrying this beautiful collection of flowers destined for the reception pavilion.

The morning of the wedding, several of us helped get things ready for the big event.

Friends Bob and Cece filled their rental car with table flowers, plus local tea and chocolate for party favors.

Jason and Kristin spent weeks folding 1,000 origami cranes, consistent with the Japanese practice called sembazuru. The time and energy put into hand folding the cranes symbolizes the patience and trust necessary for a happy marriage.

Jason inspected the pastoral field where the ceremony would be held a few hours later. He directed the volunteers to help get things started.

Kristin's Dad, John, places chairs, while Margy helps align them. Meanwhile others wiped them down for cleanliness.

At left in photo is Jason's Dad, Steve, joining Jason and Kristin's Dad, John, as they work to get everything set for the special event.

Below is the pavilion where the reception was held, in this beautiful venue not far from Boulder Colorado. The building also served as a "safe haven" shelter when the skies let loose with downpours!

Happy and proud guests began to arrive for the 3:00 p.m. Sunday wedding, including Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, brothers and sisters, cousins and friends from near and far.

The band played beautiful country and traditional music as the guests arrived, always leery of the impending rain. Occasional showers drove some under umbrellas, ponchos or tents.

It's all about attitude!

As you can see from the smiling faces, everybody took the rain in stride, awaiting the start of the wedding, which would soon offer some additional surprise showers.

The minister looked ready, though John seems to have some doubts about the weather.
This photographer, like most of us, continued to look skyward, trying to anticipate what might come next in the way of showers.

Finally, with the group spirit to continue, the ceremonies began. The wedding party entered as we all crossed our fingers.

With lots of smiles and lots of sprinkles, the wedding began!

Rain or shine, Kristin was beaming this special day. What a beautiful bride!

In fact, both Kristin and Jason beamed throughout the ceremony.

Seeing their happy and loving faces made everyone forget about the rain, at least for a while.

Poignant and funny comments were enjoyed by all.

At times, it almost seemed as if the sun would actually come out.

Then again, the rain returned, and Kristin's sister, Jamie, had to protect the bride from drops.

Kristin's parents, John and Bobbi, look on lovingly as the wedding proceeds with vows and exchange of the rings. So far, we are all fairly dry.

Holding hands, smiles and love all around.

Then came the rain! Just as the ring ceremony began, there was lightning, thunder and a downpour. Note that John and Bobbi are now covered in their poncho. However, bride and all laughed heartily.

Despite the rain: "You may kiss the bride!" Now officially husband and wife, they (and we) all ran from the rain.

The reception hall provided dry cover for all.

Once inside, we all enjoyed the opportunity to dry off, take photos, and check out the photos taken so far.

It was also a chance to take photos of, and with, Kristin.

Special moments with loving Grandparents, included what seems to be some advice from Grandpa.

Under cover of roof, more of the planned ceremony continued, with Kristin's Uncle Jack saying a few words.

With the full wedding party in attendance, the Unity Candle Ceremony was conducted.

Then the first dance as husband and wife.

Followed by Father and Daughter.

And Father-in-Law with Daughter-in-Law.

Weather permitting, celebrations continued in and out of the pavilion. Jason's Dad and brother Matt at left, and Kristin's Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Charlie above.

Friends from where Kristin worked part-time baked some delicious cakes and Jason's cousin Jenny made the decorations and decorated it before it was cut and served.

Well into the evening, all of us enjoyed hugs, kisses, and time together.

Rain or shine, Kristin and Jason sure enjoyed this day!
