Visitors in 2007

March 8 to 14

We were thrilled that Louise, wife of Artie's former boss, finally came to visit us in Chile. She and Margy had been volunteer baby cuddlers in Dallas.

During her visit, she and Margy did some sightseeing in Santiago. We also enjoyed spending a weekend in Mirasol, where we did some more exploring, this time of nearby beaches.

Mónica invited us to a family birthday dinner for her son, Alejandro, and we cuddled his son, Agustín.

March 14 to April 4

Margy's sister, Bibba arrived the morning of the last day of Louise's visit, so the three of us didn't get to spend as much time together as we had hoped. Luckily, Bibba didn't need a nap, so the three us went out to Los Dominicos to do some shopping.

Bibba was still taking it easy from having broken her foot, so reading and relaxing at the beach house was just what the doctor ordered. She went through a number of our books as well as one that she had brought along.
We ate well that first weekend at Mirasol, since Mónica did the cooking. Yummy!

The next weekend, Bibba was ready to explore some of the beaches nearby. She and I stayed on after the weekend, until Artie returned with a corporate visitor, Luis Fernando. We enjoyed a dinner at a restaurant right on beach and watched the sun set.
In the morning of the day that Bibba left, I went with her to Gonzalo's office so he could treat her last remaining shoulder pain resulting from her broken foot. I had to translate. She asked if he could also treat her head, and the result was marvelous. It reminded both of us of the cranial treatments that Daddy used to give us.

July 15

Cristián and Antonia were back in Chile for their summer break from their conservatories in Spain and Holland, and they came to spend time with us in Mirasol.

We delighted to watch several hummingbirds among the flowers in our garden.

Hummingbirds...

...and lovebirds.

Lute music

We had fun with "our boy." It was so good spending time with him while he was here.

July 25 to 29

We spent some time with Norm and Kris when they visited Chile this year. Norm had been the general manager at OxyChile before Artie's predecesor Mike. Mónica taught Spanish to Kris, who is now a Spanish teacher in the USA! Norm and Artie had worked together in the late 80s and again in the mid 90s.

We had a good time with Mónica, Gustavo, Norm and Kris in Mirasol on the weekend.

August 28

When we went to Spain to visit Cristián in his first year at the conservatory, he was living in an apartment with 2 French girls and an Italian fellow, Manuel (left). He and Gianluca were traveling in South America and they had a few hours to spend with Cristián before getting their bus to the south. We invited all of them for a pancake breakfast and then went to Los Dominicos to shop for gifts.

September 8

We went to the airport to see Antonia and Cristián off as they returned to Europe for their studies. Antonia's parents and neice were there too.

Mid to late September

While we were in the USA, our house in Mirasol had visitors! Mónica's entire family was there, including her son Christian, his wife Karen and their two kids, Catalina and Antonio visiting from Mexico, Alejandro, Flaca, and their son, Agustín, and Cote. Mónica literally had her hands full with her 3 grandchildren together - and loved it!

They enjoyed a variety of activities, biking, walking on the beach and in the garden, and just relaxing.

Christian and family had a busy but fun time during their visit, and we got to see them and meet baby Antonio at Mónica's on our return from the States on September 23rd and again on the 28th, when we celebrated Agustín's first birthday (one week early), the night before the visitors from Mexico returned home.

Helping to celebrate the early birthday were more of Mónica's family, all pictured below.

October 27

We entertained corporate vistors from Dallas with an excursion to the beach. They were here for the company's annual Service Awards Dinner and customer visits, as well as for the announcement of Artie's retirement, effective March 31, 2008. Shown in the photo from left to right are Mario (Artie's replacement April 2008 as General Manager) and his wife Pilar, Mike (the former General Manager of Chile), Dennis (Artie's boss), Helmut (Vice President Basic Chemicals), Artie and Joe (Manager of International Sales).

On the way to the beach, we made a short stop at Viña Mar, a Casablanca valley winery for a tour and wine tasting.

At our Mirasol beach house, the guys talked business, while the gals chatted. Some stayed on the deck and others enjoyed the poolside and walking in the garden.

Before heading back to Santiago, we visited some nearby scenic views.

Beautiful beaches and flowers. Good company!

Although it wasn't at the beach, we enjoyed seeing the sunset as we headed home.
