Our USA trip

May 18-30, 2007

We began this trip in North Carolina, where we lived in the late 1980's and had not been back there for almost a decade. We then worked our way by car through Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire visiting friends and relatives all along the way. Some we had not seen in nearly 20 years!
This is the house we owned when we lived in Wilmington, NC. Wow, those trees and bushes really grew!

Our dear friends Curt and Susan were our neighbors. They picked us up at the airport, and we enjoyed our first weekend with them, including a visit to the nearby Wrightsville Beach.

Curt and Susan enjoy their bikes, with local and longer distance trips for fun. Their two dogs, Ruby and Ling, are like family.

From the Wilmington area we headed to Cary, NC, near Raleigh. Our friends Pablo and Gina from Chile were there for a year with their 4 kids as Pablo attended an executive level management course at Duke University.

In Virginia we visited with Artie's high school buddy, Ken, and his wife Jo. It had been 20 years since our last visit with them in Kansas.

Ken took us to Jamestown Settlement, celebrating its 400 year history.

It was fun for these two "old" gymnasts and friends to re-unite. Ken proudly wore his Brooklyn Technical High School T-shirt, bringing back lots of fond memories of their days in the early 60's.

The following afternoon, another 4 hour drive and a new reunion with John, Cari and Dennis, in Pasadena MD, near Baltimore. These special friendships began at Syracuse University and Allied Chem.

The next day: Lakewood NJ to visit 93 year old Adella - still in great shape!

Ray prepared a special "Pop's Pizza" for dinner and we enjoyed a great evening catching up with the family.

Brian, Kevin and Jill joined the fun as well and then later Adella went out for her stroll with Ray and the walker.

After two nights in New Jersey we were on the road again. This time with a two-hour whistle stop in Deep River, CT to see our world traveling friend and author John, and his special lady Annabelle.

From Deep River we headed straight to Waltham, MA, to visit with Larry and Marianne.

We returned there two more times over the next few days so that we could spend some quality time with Marianne. These were very touching moments for all of us, and were memorable and very special.

Shown in this photo is her session with a speech therapist, working to improve methods of communication while Larry and we looked on.

The photos below are of a robin and a nest of baby birds that used an outdoor light fixture above the back deck for their temporary home. This touch of new life sprouting so nearby was fun to see.

Bibba had joined us for the last few days of our trip, staying with us in our New Hampshire condo. The sisters had a fun time together.

We even fit in a brief breakfast get together at a favorite local restaurant in downtown Nashua with our Realtor, Patty.

Artie, Bibba and Margy all bought new digital cameras at one of the local camera shops on Main Street.

During our last days in New Hampshire, we dropped down to Upton, MA, to visit with Danny and Roberta, and their kids, Maddie and Max. We had fun talking, eating and watching the kids put on a costume show for us.

A fun finish to a great vacation with friends and family across the Eastern USA.
