Ariff and Angela visit

August 24-29, 2006

Part 2

Angela meets some more of our "family."

The day was foggy in Valparaíso on the Pacific Coast, but that didn't stop us from taking pictures.

the foggy port of Valparaíso

It was cold so Margy bought a new shawl at our first stop.

colorful buildings are characteristic in this old port city   artists also found the sights interesting
Valparaíso is an historic port city known for its colorful buildings and steep hills. Normally we would have taken an "ascensor" (a sort of cable car on rails) to climb this hill, but this winter, most of the ascensors in the city were closed for repairs. We took the climb slowly, stopping often to enjoy the scenes and to catch our breath!

sightseeing? cat   take a bow (or chase your tail)

Normally this house stands against the blue water of the ocean.   hilltop restaurant didn't have much view on this foggy day

The blue house is almost at the top.

We enjoyed lunch in a very artistic restaurant.

the inside of the restaurant was quite picturesqe

A lot of looking...

and a little buying.

Downhill is easier!

Strolling behind these lovers we returned to our car to drive to the beach.

watching the waves   We drove north through Viña del Mar and stopped at a section of beach at Reñaca. We enjoyed walking, climbing on the rocks, breathing in the salt air and taking lots of pictures.

a nice reunion after 25 years   fake fish for a fake seal!

And so we said goodbye to the Pacific Ocean and headed back to Santiago, arriving after dark.
Since we hadn't had enough time to do much touring in the city, we were happy to at least drive through el centro on the way home and snap a few pictures. We caught a glimpse of the oldest church in the city of Santiago.   San Francisco church, the oldest in Santiago
Downtown Santiago at night

One final picture. Here Angela enjoyed the view from our terrace. We look forward to Angela and Ariff's return.
