Horses of Las CondesWhoa! There's a horse of a different color! And another, and another... |
| In November of 2005, our local community, Las Condes, sponsored an art exhibition through the neighborhood with colorful horses that were painted by different artists and paid for by a variety of organizations and businesses. Each one was creatively decorated with themes that often tied to the sponsors. Can you find Mitsubishi, Master Card, a construction company, a newspaper, the postal service, a Chilean flag, Hush Puppies, a medical center, or other special designs? There were about three dozen different ones, most of them shown here, with one or more per city block. We can see four right from our apartment terrace. They sure are fun to see, and brighten up our already colorful neighborhood. |

| Bikers and skateboarders enjoy cruising around the horses, especially on a quiet Sunday like the day we walked
to take these photos. |

| In December 2005 Chileans will vote for a new president to serve his or her 6 year term. The candidates for this office as well as various other ones are heavily advertised with this sort of sign. Not all are so nicely color coordinated! | ||

| At the base of each horse is a plaque, similar to the one above, recognizing the sponsor, designer and producer. | ||
| Our apartment terrace is to the left of the above horse's left ear. | ||
| This part of the city of Santiago is sometimes referred to as "Sanhatten," the clever combination of
Santiago and Manhatten, due to the preponderance of tall modern buildings. |
| The small carved wooden horse wasn't part of the art exhibit. On Sundays an antiques fair is held along the sidewalk next to the plaza across from our apartment. In fact, these last few shots show the friendly park with our apartment in the background, and the busy shoppers looking for bargains. Why not browse all these Las Condes horse pictures one more time, taking a closer look at the background neighborhood in which we live. Notice the creative architecture, the wide walkways, and clean environment that we enjoy. Santiago is a wonderful city, and the cosmopolitan community of Las Condes is a particularly pleasant place to live, especially now with all these fun horses brightening our streets. |
