Highlights of 2004

We hope you enjoy this quick review of some of the key events of our year. In addition, please take the opportunity to see more in-depth pictures and stories of these and other events by following the links from the homepage.

January

We helped arrange for Coté (at left) to go to New Jersey to stay with Jill, Kevin and Brian on January 23 after the idea was first proposed on January 6. There were many contacts during her stay until her return February 28th, and there is an entire website about her stay.

A visitor, John Guy LaPlante arrived in Chile, and shared many interesting stories of his around the world adventures with us. He has since published a book about his experiences: "Around the World at 75. Alone, Dammit!" The ISBN number (International Standards Book Number) is 0-7414-2364-2. That is the magic number. With it you can obtain the book through virtually any book store.

February

Future Abuelita! Mónica's son Christian and Karen were expecting a baby in August!

We made a webpage about our Valentines Day.

Artie finished reading his first novel in Spanish. All 629 pages! See July for Margy's accomplishment.

March

Who are these people with the cameras?

It's Den and Cari Beuerle who visited us March 6-15. We all had a wonderful vacation, which was well documented with 2,300 digital photos taken with 4 cameras!

The link from the home page will take you to a series of 9 pages with the best of the pictures. It's a great way to see what we did and saw.

May

Our USA home leave was May 11-21, including a weekend with family and friends at Mohonk, where we celebrated Adella having reached the age of 90 as of April 19.

Other highlights of the trip included Artie's Leadership II presentation at Toms River Fitness, great visits with family and friends from and in several states, and our shopping for cameras and PDAs.

June

We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary and our 5 years in Chile with our Chilean friends and family.   Cristian traveled to Seville for placement exams at the music conservatory and was accepted (of course since he got the highest scores)!

With 160 dried flowers, Margy asked Artie to stop bringing her a flower he picked after each jog. She took up swimming for her exercise.

Cristián dedicated a concert to us!

July

Margy finally bothered to get her Chile driver's license. It is with the book Artie read in February. But will she start driving here now?     Coté returned to the USA, this time with her boyfriend Andrés to visit Jill's family and to show him New York City during their winter break at the University.

August

  Margy got her new computer.

Cristián got his Spanish visa and took driving lessons.

Artie began "kitchen coaching" public speaking with Kirk and Beatrize, and he went snowboarding for his second time. A new annual event?

And we proudly joined the country in celebrating the first ever gold Olympic medals for Chile!

Chile's new heros, Fernando Gonzáles and Nicolás Massú won gold medals in men's tennis.

September

We gave a Farewell party for Cristián with a videotaped concert of his students (Artie and Margy) playing for their teacher before he left for Spain for advanced study of early music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música "Manuel Castillo" in Seville. We miss him very much, but we communicate often by email and phone. Margy made him websites in both English and Spanish.

October

Margy continued her study of guitar with Nicolás, who was recommended by Cristián.

We watched our first entire movie (dubbed) in Spanish and understood it all! Jurasic Park 3.

November

We enjoyed watching our friend Mauricio run a half Marathon in our neighborhood.

Artie began teaching banjo to Monica and Gustavo.

Artie's mom Adella came for her 5th visit to Chile. Among the highlights were the trip to Curicó, the OxyChile plant, and a farm, Thanksgiving dinner, Oxy's Family Day, and hearing about Artie's handshake with President Bush!

December

We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas with Mónica's family, including the new grandbaby, Catalina who is coming with her parents from Mexico for the holidays. Mónica's mother, sister and neice are also coming from London. Mónica had her tree and apartment ready for the holidays in November while Adella was here!

We hope your holidays will be just as joyous!
