Our Flight Simulator Experience

December 2, 2002

Boeing 737-200

We won a raffle prize of an afternoon of flight simulation training at the Lufthansa/LanChile Flight Training Center in Santiago.

Ron Teichmann began our training with ground school. He told us what to expect with our experience and taught us some basics about flight, cockpit instrumentation, and what we would have to do.

Mónica and Cote had gone for a ride in the simulator earlier, and Mónica joined Artie and Margy for this more comprehensive training session.

The simulator makes use of hydraulic lifts, computer generated graphics and sounds to create the sensation of real flight and control.

The giant simulator box houses an actual cockpit and moves in response to the pilot's use of the controls. Thank goodness for Dramamine!

Without a camera flash, the images through the windows of the cockpit seem real.

Now we've all had a turn at the controls of a 737-200 and lived to tell about it!
