Frutillar During the Music Festival

January 29–February 1, 2003

We went to Frutillar, a village on Lago Llanquihue, the largest lake in Chile, during the 35th season of their annual music festival to see Cristián perform with Les Carillons, playing Renaissance and Baroque music. The musical theme is everywhere in this small German community.

We stayed at the Am-See, a small family guesthouse and restaurant facing the lake. We had stopped there for kuchen with my sister Pat and her husband in 2001 and had asked to see what the rooms were like at that time. Our room looked out over the lake.
As a part of the "Semanas Musicales" there were many concerts available. Coming out of the church from a noontime concert, we saw this enterprising young student playing for donations across the street.

Cristián and the rest of his group arrived into town that day, and after lunch, we watched them rehearse at the same church.

Les Carillones performed at the noontime concert at the church on January 31.

After the concert, Cristián showed his Baroque guitar to some interested members of the audience.

And outside, the group posed for some formal pictures. They also did some clowning around for the photographer.

Clouds usually hid the Osorno Volcano behind Artie, but that day there was sun!

The next day Cristián joined us in touring the German Heritage Museum. The drizzle didn't dampen our spirits.
